How to do Walking jacks

Type: Dynamic cardio warm-up
Suitable for: Warm-up, Cardio fitness, Coordination

Walking jacks are a gentler take on traditional jumping jacks: they get your heart pumping and help improve your coordination and mobility without too much impact on your joints. Perfect for warming up before a more intense workout or as a part of a low-impact fitness routine.

Directions

  1. Stand with your feet together and your arms at your sides.
  2. Step to the right with your right foot while simultaneously raising your arms out to the sides and up above your head.
  3. Bring your left foot next to the right, lowering your arms back to your sides.
  4. Repeat the movement to the left side, continuing to alternate directions with each step.

Helpful hints

  • Chest high, shoulders easy: Keep your chest up and shoulders relaxed to stay comfortable and avoid tension.
  • Align your knees: Make sure your knees are in line with your toes for better joint protection and stability.
  • Swing high and wide: Extend your arms fully to the sides and overhead with each step to make the most of the move.
  • Keep a steady pace: Maintain a consistent pace to ensure you’re moving smoothly and safely.
  • Stand tall: Hold your torso upright to keep your balance and make your movements more effective.
