How to do Trunk rotations

Type: Dynamic stretch
Suitable for: Warm-up, Flexibility and mobility, Core strengthening

Trunk rotations are perfect for waking up your spine and stretching your torso. This gentle twist helps increase spinal mobility and can really loosen up your back and sides, especially if you’ve been sitting for a while.

Directions

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and place your hands behind your head.
  2. Gently twist your torso to the right as far as you comfortably can, keeping your hips facing forward.
  3. Hold the position for a few seconds, enjoying the stretch in your lower back and along your torso.
  4. Slowly come back to the center and then repeat the stretch to the left side.

Helpful hints

  • Comfortable rotation: Rotate only as far as feels good. Pushing too far can strain your back.
  • Shoulders down: Keep your shoulders relaxed and low to avoid tension in your neck.
  • Take it slow: Move into and out of the twist slowly and with control to get the best stretch and avoid any jerky movements.
